Assistant Equipment Mechanic
The City of Cedar Falls is seeking to certify a Civil Service list for and employ an Assistant Equipment Mechanic. Current starting pay: $21.761/hr. plus benefit package. Selected individual will be eligible for union contract and step pay increases. Position will perform a variety of skilled duties related to entry-level service and repair of gasoline and diesel powered automotive and motorized equipment. Duties involve performance of skilled tasks on the mechanical repair and service of automobiles, trucks, semi tractor-trailers, mowers, tractors, garbage packers and other standard and specialized equipment. Duties could also involve maintenance and repair work to pumps, compressors, motors, and similar equipment.
Education and experience requirements: completion of the 12th grade or equivalent and experience in skilled equipment mechanic work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required. Candidates must also have: a valid driver’s license, good driving record and possession of (or ability to obtain and maintain) the appropriate Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Position is subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse queries, driver’s license and driving record reviews, and DOT random drug and alcohol screenings. Upon a conditional offer of employment, a physical exam including lifting assessment and drug screen will be required.
Completion of an onsite interview will be required after candidates meeting the above education and experience requirements are approved by the City’s Civil Service Commission.
