The City of Columbus, Nebraska, is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter/EMT/Hazardous Materials Technician with Civil Service testing taking place on Friday, September 6, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. Applicants must be at least 19 years of age, possess a high school diploma or equivalent. College level course work in fire science, fire admin or related field is desirable. Any combination of education, training and experience which produces the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job and related to the essential functions of the position.
Responsible for responding to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, technical rescue and other calls to protect life and property; to participate in fire prevention and training, and to maintain the fire station and firefighting equipment.
This is a Civil Service position and requires a competitive written test which will take place on Friday, September 6, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. at the Columbus Fire Station, 1459 26th Ave, Columbus Nebraska. A physical agility test will be scheduled on Monday, September 9, 2019 for the candidates that pass the written test. A Civil Service interview for passing score candidates will take place on a later date to be announced.
Base rate is approximately $40,486 - $56,912 with an additional $533/month Paramedic comp and opportunity for overtime.
