This position is remote restricted; the position may be approved to work remotely full-time, but the employee will be expected to reside within 125 miles of the Germantown, MD worksite. The selected program manager will manage portfolios of computer science and networking projects that address the increasingly diverse and complex future high end computing environments. Duties:
The Computational Science Research and Partnerships Division is responsible for funding and administering fundamental research programs in applied mathematics, computer science, and advanced scientific computing software tools; and computational partnerships with other SC offices and with other DOE elements that utilize peta- to exa-scale computing resources for modeling and simulating complex scientific and engineering problems across the entire civilian scope of the Department. To fulfill these responsibilities, the Division assigns to individual program managers broad responsibility for areas in applied mathematics and computer science, as well as computational partnerships which can crosscut several areas of responsibility. In addition to having recognized expertise in physical, computational, and mathematical sciences, each applicant should possess knowledge and understanding of next-generation computing architectures and technologies such as quantum communications and advanced wireless approaches as they may be applied to analyzing and solving scientific problems. Additional areas of experience may include: determining the scientific focus and direction of a scientific research program, for instance, preparation of calls for proposals, organization of independent peer reviews, recommendations for funding allocations, monitoring and assessment of scientific program progress, and the review and recommendation of funding decisions for research proposals; managing scientific research including the development of requests for funding within an organization and the management of budgets and staffing for research project(s); and communicating information effectively both orally and in writing such as presentation of strategies, advisory opinions and recommendations to managers, supervisors, and to varied audiences in formal and informal settings.
