Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The System Administrator III, Virtualization maintains the integrity of the virtualization environment. Responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining virtualized workstations and servers in support of complex processing requirements. Provides extensive operational support, file restorations, backups, disk space management and problem resolution for application platforms. Researches, evaluates, and recommends software and hardware products. Maintains a secure systems environment for the enterprise.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Designs, deploys and maintains the server, desktop and network virtualization layers of a highly-virtualized enterprise environment

2. Develops and implements business continuity practices for virtualization management, including RTO/RPOs and defining recovery plans

3. Researches, recommends, installs, and configures, tests and implements infrastructure software and hardware

4. Troubleshoots virtualization related issues and takes appropriate actions

5. Monitors use and availability of resources, generating reports and analysis as requested

6. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of backups and database archival operations

7. Maintains and modifies backup and recovery procedures to meet high availability and mission critical business needs

8. Maintains storage configurations to provide capacity planning and performance monitoring/tuning of systems

9. Benchmarks, evaluates, and makes recommendations for the selection of storage management software and hardware products

10. Analyzes system requirements and performance of hardware/software systems, and develops specific measures to increase the overall efficiency of these systems

11. Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions

12. Maintains tasks, projects, and activities in the IT system of record (Service-NOW)

13. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

· Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment

· Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position

· Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

· May regularly travel to different LSC locations

· May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary

· May need to work weekends and outside of core business hours if necessary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

· Intermediate certification in area of responsibility (e.g. VMWare Certified Professional - Datacenter Virtualization or equivalent)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Advanced certification(s) in areas of responsibility (e.g. VMWare Certified Advanced Professional - Datacenter Virtualization)

· Experience in any of the following systems:

o VMWare NSX-T

o Cloud Infrastructure (Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform, etc.)

o Hyperconverged Infrastructure

o VMWare Horizon View or other similar desktop virtualization platform

o HPE Synergy or HPE OneView

o Cisco UCS

o CIFS and NFS filesystems

o Backup systems

o Physical datacenter management, including power, UPS and cooling systems

Salary

Hiring salary range is $74,911 - $86,148.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
