Assistant Professor of Workforce Education and Development

The Department of Learning and Performance Systems, in the College of Education at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor. This is a tenure-track position with primary responsibilities in teaching, research, and service in the Workforce Education and Development program.

The mission of Penn State's Workforce Education and Development (WFED) program is to promote excellence, opportunity, and leadership among scholars and professionals in the field of workforce education and development, including professionals employed in secondary and postsecondary education institutions, social services, employee organizations, and public and private sector business and industry. Faculty in the program strive to attain a cost-effective academic program recognized nationally as among the best in scholarship, leadership, and professional preparation.

Appointment:

This position is a tenure track, 36-week faculty appointment in the Workforce Education and Development program with the possibility of supplemental summer appointments in research and/or teaching.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will: have an active program of research; be responsible for teaching residential and online undergraduate and graduate courses; advise undergraduate, master's and doctoral students; and provide service to the Department, College, University, and professional organizations or other external agencies.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Workforce Education and Development, Workplace Learning and Performance, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Technology Education, Training and Development, Technical Teacher Education or a closely related field. Candidates who have completed all doctoral work but have not yet defended their dissertation at the time of the application will also be considered, although candidates must have completed their degree by the time of hire.
Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to a significant program of research that has the potential to secure external funding, commensurate with experience.
Candidates must provide evidence of the potential for excellence in teaching and advising, commensurate with experience.
Candidates must show potential to work with underserved and/or underrepresented populations.

We seek a candidate with workforce development experiences and connections with business, industry and education which will help us enhance our professional and scholarly reach in these areas.

Desirable Qualifications:

Three to five years of corporate or organizational experience
An established record of publication or the promise of such a record of publication
Evidence of engagement in or the potential for engagement in theoretically driven research aimed at the development of interventions to support education and improve learning outcomes and enhanced professional practices.
Evidence of excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching courses residentially and online at the undergraduate and graduate levels of Workforce Education and Development or a related field (e.g., career and technical education, technical teacher education, technology education, training and development, or STEM teacher education with a particular emphasis on training within technology and engineering related settings).
An established record of receiving competitive grants or the promise of such a record of receiving competitive grants to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational interventions and enhanced professional practices.
The ability to advise undergraduate, master's and doctoral graduate students.
Commitment to providing service to the Department, College, University, and professional organizations or other external agencies.

The College of Education

The College of Education at Penn State was established in 1923 to deepen and extend knowledge about the formation and utilization of human capabilities. It offers resident degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, online learning programs at the graduate level, as well as an extensive outreach effort aimed at continuing professional development for educators at distant locations. The College's research program is also extensive and College faculty members secured over $36.7 million in external support during the past three years from a wide range of national and state government agencies, private foundations, and corporations.
