Coordinator of Campus Recreation for Facilities and Operations

Penn State Campus Recreation is looking for an experienced and dynamic leader to join our team and serve as a Facilities and Operations Coordinator. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Outdoor Adventure, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports. Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation for Facilities and Operations, the Coordinator for Facilities and Operations will serve on a team responsible for the daily operation and management of Campus Recreation facilities at Penn State University. Specific responsibilities include direct supervision of student staff, student development, day-to-day operations of assigned buildings, and occasional support for other buildings, projects, and events.

Education and Experience:
  • This position typically requires an associate's degree and a minimum of three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience managing collegiate recreational facilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills to select, supervise, motivate, train, and evaluate student employees relative to work performance, crisis management, and peer relationships are required.
  • Knowledge of student development principles and an ability to provide formal and informal student development opportunities for student staff is required.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in educational administration, recreation or sport management, physical education, or a related field is preferred.
  • Four years of experience within collegiate recreation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of software systems such as Fusion is preferred.


This position requires independent work on assignments while reviewing progress and updating the Assistant Director as appropriate. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Must be able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and good judgment are vital requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental and Student Affairs initiatives and efforts. Required to take initiative and have the flexibility to adapt to shifting workload demands. The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees, and participants is essential. The work schedule may include occasional evening and weekend hours.
