District Manager
Job Summary:
The position is responsible for exercising discretion and independent judgement in soliciting independent newspaper carriers; achieving, distribution, service, and improving market penetration through retention of current customers. This position works closely with all departments in the Circulation Division to ensure accomplishment of distribution, service and collections in assigned districts.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Solicit and contract individuals to effectively service, and sell existing and new customers.
2. Monitor carrier/distributor results daily and initiate corrective action based on results of carrier/distributor.
3. Ensure all routine route functions, including delivering newspapers, are maintained in the absence of a contractor.
4. Establish contact and rapport with schools, city offices, and community organizations in assigned district.
5. Develop objectives; implement programs. Promote sales and service contests, and ensure all materials are distributed and understood.
6. Conduct annual route audits to verify profitability.
7. Conduct ongoing communication with customers to verify new orders, reverse cancellations and resolve service complaints.
8. Prepare, submit, and maintain all required reports: i.e. expense reports, weekly planner, etc.
9. Available to work early morning hours Mon. – Sunday and receive phone calls at various hours of the day.
10. Safely drive to and from various locations in assigned district.
11. Interact positively with customers and contractors.
12. Perform audits utilizing basic math skills.
13. Work as a Circulation team member.
14. On-site, regular and reliable attendance is required.
15. Safely drive to and from various locations.
Marginal Job Functions:
1. Assists in special projects as needed.
2. All other duties as assigned.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Ability to follow all Company policies and procedures including but not limited to attendance standards.
2. Able to lift up to 45 lbs. of newspaper bundles.
3. Stamina to work varied hours.
4. Able to walk up stairs and distances of 2 blocks to 2 miles in a period of 2 hours.
5. Communicate effectively on the phone and in person.
6. Must read, understand, and follow instructions.
7. Must communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
8. Complete assignments meeting deadlines.
9. Able to maintain composure in stressful situations.
10. Basic math skills.
11. Basic map reading skills.
12. Basic computer knowledge.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Physical Dimensions for Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling:
Medium-Heavy Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Job involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally.
