Job Description
Virginia Tech’s Department of Computer Science seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Project Manager of the Virginia Tech Blockchain Initiative and related projects led by the Department of Computer Science. The position’s primary responsibility will be managing activities supported by the Blockchain Ecosystem Catalyst (BEC) grant from the GO VA program. The position will work closely with the Associate Department Head for Research and Engagement to lead, steward, strategize, and execute Computer Science collaborative partnership activities in GO VA Region 2 of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Computer Science priorities are aligned with the GO VA goal “to create more high-paying jobs through incentivized collaboration between business, education, and government to diversify and strengthen the economy in every region of the Commonwealth.” BEC grant activities will bring together higher education and blockchain technology business strengths of Region 2 (cities of Covington, Lynchburg, Radford, Roanoke, and Salem; and the counties of Alleghany, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Botetourt, Campbell, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski, and Roanoke) to provide IT training and employment networking opportunities to regional constituents.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must: hold a Bachelor's Degree with experience in project management or an advanced degree in a related field; have an appreciation for new technologies and their role in economic development; be a strategic thinker with an ability to nurture and develop long-term strategic partnerships with government, corporations and non-profit institutions; and be capable of excellent communication skills including public speaking, all forms of correspondence, and writing. Candidates must also be willing and able to travel periodically.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have economic development experience and/or a master’s or doctorate degree, or degrees combining management and engineering/science; advanced knowledge of computing technologies (e.g., blockchain); management or supervisor experience; expertise in university-government-corporate collaborations preferably at a leading research university; experience in advancement or business development; experience in customer service, national or international event planning, marketing or sales; a strong understanding of project management methodologies; and a familiarity with communication software (wordpress, constant contact, SalesForce (CRM), etc.).
