Washington County Building Inspector
Washington County Board of Supervisors will be accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector.
The County Building Inspector is responsible for inspection activities including the building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing codes as adopted by Washington County. They also review construction activities for adherence to the County's zoning and flood plain regulations. The Building Inspector assists in reviewing, advising or drafting appropriate building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing codes for Washington County.
A Qualified applicant must be able to perform the following duties:
Conducts proper and timely inspections of all construction activities for compliance with the adopted editions of the International Building Code, National Electrical Code, International Plumbing Code and International Mechanical Code.
Reviews plans, specifications, and other data to ensure plans meet the minimum requirements of the applicable codes.
Issues verbal and written orders for the correction of defects in materials, workmanship, and other code violations.
Explains and interprets codes and regulations to owners, building contractors, government officials and general public.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSE Requirements:
Possession of a valid State of Nebraska motor vehicle operator license.
Journeyman Electrician or Class A Journeyman Electrician at a minimum
Washington County will train and reimburse successful applicant for testing
Certification or Licenses that would be required to have within 1 year of employment
An ICC Residential Building Inspector.
NDEE Onsite Wastewater Treatment Government Inspector.
A Certified State Electrical Inspector (licensed as an Electrical Contractor, Class A Electrical Contractor)
Certification to do electrical inspections from one of the following within six months of date of hire:
1. Council of American Building Officials
2. International Conference of Building Officials.
This position will also require ability to utilize Microsoft Office and work with other software systems involved with the Planning and Zoning Office.
Other Requirements for this position are:
Work is generally performed outdoors year-round, periodically during inclement weather at construction sites which may be dusty, noisy and hazardous. Job duties require a considerable amount of physical activity, including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, and climbing. Applicate must possess the coordination and manual dexterity necessary to physically access construction sites to conduct inspections and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
